Abstract

Chronic hepatitis C is a leading cause of liver-related morbidity and mortality in the United States and throughout the world. Current estimates indicate that 3.9 million people in the United States have been infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV). Despite progress in treating chronic hepatitis C with IFN or with IFN and ribavirin, most patients in the United States do not experience a sustained virological responsewith receipt of these therapies.
