Cellulitis is an inflammatory condition of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, characterized by erythema, swelling, warmth, and pain. The etiologic agents are most often Streptococcus pyogenes and Staphylococcus aureus, followed by non–group A β-hemolytic streptococci and gram-negative bacilli.
