Abstract
Septicemia, which is characterized by repeated positive cultures identifying bacteria or fungi in the blood of
symptomatic persons, is a life-threatening condition, with a mortality rate in 10 percent of children. The
microorganisms responsible for septicemia differ according to age and predisposing conditions.
