Human Leukocyte Antigen for invasive Streptococcus pyogenes infections
Streptococcal toxic shock syndrome is triggered by exotoxins of Streptococcus pyogenes that function
immunologically as superantigens. Microbial superantigens are a family of proteins with particular structural and
sequence features that result in the shared ability to bypass the mechanisms of conventional, major
complex–restricted antigen processing.
