Abstract
The highly homologous proteins inhibit their cognate proteinases by forming an essentially irreversibly tight
equimolecular complex, which is subsequently cleared from the circulation. The primary role of plasminogen in
vivo is a fast-acting inhibition of both tissue- and urokinase-type plasminogen activators.
